Egremont Town Council would like to give a big shout out to members of our
community who have caught the litter picking bug and have been out collecting
in various areas of our parish. Our very own Town Councillor Tom Higgins along with other helpers like Barbara Mazurek have been out nearly every day and in the past week alone, he has collected well over 20 bags of rubbish.sadly a lot of what he has collected has been empty alcohol cans and smash ed bottles which has caused problems for dogs being walked along these paths but he is certainly doing a grand job and now along with other members of the public who have begun cleaning up areas where they live, where they walk etc,Egremont is looking a lot cleaner.
There is still a lot to do however, the main thing being getting the message
across to people to pick up after themselves, it’s a fundamental message taught
to our children throughout their lives but this simple act seems to have been
forgotten by some who choose to drop litter at their feet rather than put it into
one of the many bins provided.
The good news however is this ever- increasing band of like minded people who
care about the environment they live in and are willing to go out and look after
it. Their hard work has not gone unnoticed either, we have received some
really good comments and thanks about the difference they are making in our
community and each and every one of them deserve a pat on the back, well
done and keep up the good work.
