Egremont pupils turn out for the great Cumbria litter pick

Egremont pupils
turn out
for the
great Cumbria litter pick

On friday 6th July pupils from Bookwell school & Westlakes academy joined twenty others in the great Cumbria litter pick.
Eight pupils from Bookwell school, lead by teacher Amanda McEwan and six pupils from Westlakes lead by teacher Vicky Blackholl joined members of the public, residents and workers of Calderwood house, Chris Bowes of CO-OP, The lengthsment team and councillors from both Copeland and town councils came together to pick liiter from all over the town.

The volunteers split into three teams and collected over fifty bags of rubbish making Egremont paths and streets looking fantastically clean.

On Monday 9th July Egremont will be being judged as part of the Cumbria in Bloom awards.
Egremont town council has had the hanging baskets and planters moved and filled with lovely floral arrangements, grass and hedges have been cut and Calderwood house teams worked tirelessly to rid streets of any weeds. Last year Egremont received a bronze award, hopefully this year we can improve and go for the gold. The cemetery received three awards.

Many thanks must go out to all the pupils and teachers who took part in the litter pick  and to Calderwood house and CO-OP for their fantastic help and to all the members of the public who have instilled so much pride into our amazing town.
