The Great Cumbrian – Litter Pick 2021: Friday 21st & Saturday 22nd May

Like us, you can’t have failed to have been truly shocked and upset by the huge amount of litter and rubbish that was discarded across the Lake District and Cumbria last year as lockdown eased.

The people of Cumbria (and visitors who love the area too) are rightly proud and protective of this beautiful county and it has been the most incredibly heart-warming sight to see the reaction of so many individuals and local groups that have sprung up to take action for their local environment.

So this year’s Great Cumbrian Litter Pick is not only a chance to create a cleaner Cumbria but to:

  • Provide a focus for raising awareness that the littering MUST STOP.
  • Celebrate and say a massive thank you to the local people and groups who clean up out of the goodness of their hearts on a daily basis.

  • Local Groups. We’ve created an interactive map to highlight and sign post to all the lovely people, both individuals and groups, who are regularly litter picking across Cumbria. If you’d like to be added, complete the online form.
  • Research. We’re undertaking vital research with Keep Britain Tidy to find out more about what makes people undertake this type of anti-social activity and what interventions we can put in place to try and change people’s behaviour.
  • C.A.R.E. Help us spread the word about the Countryside Code, how to behave appropriately in the Lake District and how to visit safely.
